Review our brochure that describes why Heritage Designation of the St. Pauls building will stop St. Paul's Church from continuing our Heritage.
Friday July 30, 2010
In a spirit of faith, hope and support, we gathered for Sunday worship in Victoria Park on July 4. St. Paul’s congregation is still reeling from a fire in the sanctuary on June 30, which has shut down the entire facility for up to a month.
St. Paul’s is sharing summer worship services with its neighbour, Knox Presbyterian Church. After worshipping at Boston Presbyterian together for the last three services in July, we are happy that we will be back in St. Paul's for worship on Sunday August 1. The service will take place in Graham Hall at 10:30am.
St. Paul’s is grateful for the many kind words and acts of support that have been received from members of the community and area churches.
St. Paul's Council and Trustees met on the Sunday following the fire and a “Fire Committee” was formed. It will be their task to deal with insurers, fire investigators and other fire-related matters and report back to Council and Trustees.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated. The Ontario Fire Marshall has visited the scene and his report may take 2-3 months. The Halton Regional Police Service is investigating the fire as suspicious because a witness reported seeing someone running away from the building. The insurance investigator has also inspected the building and verbally indicated that the cause was electrical. However, this investigator wishes to return for a further inspection and until we receive his report in writing, we are unable to conclusively state that this is the cause.
A report of a structural engineer has advised that there is no structural damage to the sanctuary from the blaze. However, there has been fire damage in the north-east corner of the sanctuary and smoke damage throughout the entire facility. The Fire Committee has been dealing with our insurers and the Christian Education Centre will be ready for occupancy in early August.
